Working Artists: An Art Exhibition and Podcast Series

Project Lead: Camden Burd

Students enrolled in HIS 4935: Public History Practicum designed and curated an exhibit for the Tarble Arts Center at Eastern Illinois University. The exhibit explores the history and significance of the Works Progress Administration and the Federal Arts Project. The physical exhibit features artwork produced during this era while examining the ways in which these programs shaped art, culture, and society for the remainder of the 20th century.

In addition to the physical exhibit, students produced high-quality podcasts that dive into the stories behind the artwork. The rich narratives provide historical context about the artists, their influences, and the cultural and political significance of their artwork.

The exhibit was open during February and March 2022. You can listen to the podcast episodes on Spotify.
